Cradle 2 the Grave 5 out of 5 stars.

Leader. Thief. Warrior. Father. Armed with a potent combination of charisma, street smarts and martial arts expertise, Tony Fait navigates the menace of the urban landscape with passionate precision, taking care of business and his fiercely loyal crew of professionals with a dedication surpassed only by his love for his young daughter Vanessa. After pulling off a complex heist involving a cache of black diamonds, Fait quickly comes fist-to-fist with Su, a Taiwanese government agent who has pursued the extraordinary stones halfway across the world. As lethal as he is relentless, Su isn't just hunting down diamonds--he's hunting the ruthless Ling, his former partner, who kidnaps Fait's daughter in a ploy to exchange her for the stolen jewels. But when word hits the street that Fait stashed the stones with his fence Archie, the diamonds promptly wind up in the hands of a powerful crime lord. His back to the wall, Fait mobilizes his crew, suspends his strict no-guns policy and prepares to unleash every force at his disposal to save his daughter. But only Su knows Ling well enough to anticipate his every move--and after he dispenses with Ling's operatives, Su could be his best hope for bringing Vanessa home alive. Adversaries by code but allied by circumstance, the master thief and the enigmatic agent join forces to wage war on their common enemy: Su to exact revenge against the man who once tried to take his life, and Fait to rescue Vanessa, the one person that he cannot live without. This movie has some very well-choreographed fight scenes. The music is also good and goes with the mood of the movie. It's an entertaining movie.

Editorial Review:

When his daughter is kidnapped and held in exchange for diamonds, the leader of a crew of highly skilled urban thieves (DMX) forges an unlikely alliance with a Taiwanese Intelligence officer (Jet Li) to rescue her. Their race against the clock to find the precious stones ultimately unravels a plot to distribute a deadly new weapon of war.

Not Your Normal Martial Arts Fare 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Up to this film, I found most of these Hong Kong martial-arts films to be packed with action and most feature either a little humor (Jackie Chan) or beautiful scenery ("Hero," etc.) or wild special effects ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and more).....but this one features a mean edge.

I guess I'm not used to seeing Asian films with a lot of profanity (mainly f-words) or bloody scenes almost to the point of being gross, which one scene was in here. Yet: don't misunderstand: I liked this movie.

The hero is likable guy played by Jet Li. Despite his martial arts penchant for violence, he has a soft, boyish look to him and doesn't seem to fit the type. He's always the gentleman in here, with no profanity either. The villains, led by Tchecky Karyo, are brutal. Bridget Fonda, playing a hooker, at least wasn't some "Pretty Woman" type figure. She was rough, too, but at least realistic and I give her credit for not worrying about how she looked in here, beauty-wise.

Editorial Review:

Martial arts genius Jet Li explodes onto the screen with an intensity not seen since Bruce Lee. "Kiss of the Dragon" is not merely a thriller but a shocker. (San Francisco Chronicle) China's top secret agent visits Paris on a pleasure trip only to encounter government espionage at the highest level. "Li's action sequences are like an oil fire, spilling from one room into the next and lighing up in the interiors with heat and wreakage"! (The New York Times)

Bad quality DVD 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Warlords is a fun low budget post apocalyptic sci-fi action film from director Fred Olen Ray, but this DVD looks and sounds horrendous. It appears to be a copy of a well worn VHS with quite a few tracking issues and there are no special features. Shame on you Image Entertainment.

Warlords DVD 4 out of 5 stars.

Very Good movie to have, is a Rare Collection Item.

Now it has a place in my DVD Collection Room.

Editorial Review:

In a brutal, radioactive future, fearless warrior Dow (David Carradine) is humanity's last hope against the Warlord and his mutant hordes. With the gorgeous, deadly Danny (Dawn Wildsmith) and the strange Ammo at his side, Dow makes desperate war on the fierce desert savages who threaten to overrun the world. Courage and resourcefulness on an heroic scale lead to a final, bitter triumph in this epic action lead to a final, bitter triumph in this epic action adventure in future tense.

The best version yet of this WILD-FAST CrAzY Kung Fu movie!! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

There are like 3 versions of this movie: 1- The Legend of the Swordman, 2- Swordman II, 3- Swordman II Special Edition (this one).

The first version has the best image and sound quality but the language is only in English and the violent scenes are edited, the second version has only the chinese languages and it's uncut but the dvd is not so easy to control, this version has only the chinese languages, it's uncut and easy to control but the image and sound were not SOOO remastered.
Maybe the perfect version will be released from Dragon Dynasty.

The movie is GREAT if you like japanese ninjas fighting chineses in a CrAzY way, but don't expect that Jet Li will be the one man army! This movie is more like fighting together as a team.

WARNING: In this movie, most of the BEST fighting scenes are at midnight! I hope that doesn't bother you.

Adios.

A fantastic story of action and sacrifice but beware the terrible subtitles 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Fans of Hong Kong cinema will definitely want this famous martial arts epic in their personal library. This was Jet Li's highest grossing HK film and it made Brigitte Lin a star. The martial arts are entirely of the supernatural wuxia variety here so don't expect something realistic like Li's "Fist of Legend". The visuals are eye-popping and you won't believe your eyes as you watch ninjas ride supersized airborne shurikans as though they were magic carpets, sexy Blue Phoenix shoot snakes out of her shirt sleeves, and Master Wu's "Essence Absorbing Stance".

In addition to the frenetic action, the plot and character development is interesting, although significantly hampered by the terrible subtitles. Rather than using the subs in the theatrical and laserdisc versions, new, incomprehensible subtitles have been added. A lot of the subtlety has been lost and I particularly was frustrated that villian "Asia the Invincible" was referred to simply as "Dawn" in the new subtitles. The whole point of the movie is that Asia has become seduced by his/her newfound power to the point that she starts referring to herself as "Invincible". "Dawn" just doesn't convey that sense of overconfidence.

Each character wrestles with their own conflicts. Jet Li wants to retreat from the world of martial arts with his "brothers" and do nothing more than drink wine, yet he gets pulled into an epic conflict. Kiddo can't decide whether she wants to be treated like a lady or one of the guys. The tribal leader wants to tell Jet Li that she loves him but feels her first duty is to protect her troupe and find her father. Blue Phoenix wants to be a loyal second-in-command but can't help but mouth off one too many times. And Asia the Invincible makes an incredible personal sacrifice to bring power to the oppressed Sun Moon Sect, but is ultimately seduced by the incredible power without realizing it.

This is one of my favorite HK films, but the awful subtitles kept me from granting it the full five stars it deserves. I have no idea why they got rid of the original theatrical subtitles, but that was clearly a mistake. Still, if you're a fan of over-the-top action and films where characters are trapped between their desires and their duties, this is a must-have movie.

the best 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is the best one out of all them, in the series. I'd give this 5 stars but the reason is that you can barely see the subtitles. But its a must see movie, i sorta understood anyway even though i could barely see the subtitles.

Nice but not a remastered version 4 out of 5 stars.

This is for true Jet Li fans. Excellent Shaolin Action. And forms, speed just the exquisite style Jet Li is known for. Good story line, Only thing is the picture quality could have been better. I don't think there is a remastered version out there. If so let me know. Until then this is a must see Jet Li Film.

Truly Good Shaolin Action.

North and South Shaolin 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Now Amazon has reviews for the movie that I am reviewing-'North and South Shaolin' and a Jet Li Shaolin Temple movie. Now I can guarantee you that the 3 Jet Li 'Shaolin Temple' movies are great but this one is kind of a dud. I don't know why Amazon thinks these are the same movies but they ARE NOT.

Cassanova Wong stars as a young monk who has to take down the majorly underused kung fu superstar Eagle Han. Sadly Eagle is in Godfrey Ho form and the action director does not know how to use him properly. Cassanova on the other hand looks superb but does not get in near enough fighting. While the choreography is average at best, they speed up the film so much we can hardly see what the hell is going on in the fights.

The story is not really worth going over. Eagle Han(Han Ying) plays your standard government bad guy.

2 things that really stood out to me was the great training sequence with bamboo that Cassanova has and in the final fight you will see a couple of short action scenes that Donnie Yen ripped off for 'Legend of the Wolf'. Then this movie rips off that sweet kick that Cassanova does in the finale of 'Warriors Two'. Sadly the final fight is not great but the last 12 minutes are still worth a watch for any kung fu fan.

Picture quality from Video Asia is not very good but it is LETTERBOXED!!!!

Editorial Review:

The amazing Jet Li plays a cop whose job keeps him from attending his son's junior kung fu competitions. When sent undercover to infiltrate the gang of a brutal mob boss, his arrest--part of his cover story--exposes his son to humiliation in school. Meanwhile, his wife falls deeper into illness. The Enforcer is a classic Hong Kong blend of dazzling kung fu action and outrageously sentimental subplots. Yet as silly as some situations may seem (and let's be honest, they aren't any more ridiculous than your average Sly Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger movie), they're never boring, and when the spectacular fights begin it doesn't matter--Jet Li's stunning skill and natural charisma make him magnetic. Anita Mui, costarring as a police detective tracking Li down, gets to do her share of fighting as well. In the finale, father and son team up for a battle as funny as it is spectacular. If you only know Jet Li from Lethal Weapon 4, you owe it to yourself to check out his authentic Hong Kong work, where the stunts are jaw-dropping and the special effects, while not always perfectly realistic, are bursts of pure imagination. --Bret Fetzer

Excellent package! Triple Jet Li! First, "The One" martial-arts superstar Jet Li, in an imaginative, supercharged, futuristic thriller is just what you need...takes a new look at an old SCI-FI premise -- that hundreds of parallel universes coexist simultaneously in different dimensions. One is home to a villainous Li, who discovers that every time he kills his double on an alternate Earth, he absorbs the equivalent's life force and grows stronger. Nearly unstoppable, villainous Li gets unexpected and spirited resistance from one of his last remaining counterparts, an idealistic sheriff's deputy. The sheriff's deputy is accused of crimes committed by his evil duplicate and must find a solution. Exciting and Explosive action!!

Jet Li in Action/Comedy; the Action can be good, but the 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

comedy isn't that good . . .

1998 R-rated Hong Kong Martial Arts film (set in Hong Kong, with Japanese criminals; R-rated for violence and some language). Also known as "Sat sau ji wong," "Hitman," and "King of Assassins."

DVD Features: The DVD contains the movie and some special features. The movie can be heard in English (Dolby Digital or Dolby Surround), or Spanish (apparently no Chinese option), and has a "English for the deaf and hard of hearing" subtitle option. The special features are: Director and cast filmographies, film trailer, "Jet Li Bonus Trailers" ("The One," "Meltdown," and "Legend of The Red Dragon"), and a photo gallery.

Credits: The movie stars Jet Li (Fu; "Romeo Must Die," "Once Upon a Time in China"), Gigi Leung (Kiki; "A True Mob Story"), Simon Yam (Kwan; "Casino"), and Eric Tsang (Ngok Lo; "The Accidental Spy"). The director is Tung Wai (also known as Wei Tung; "Fox Hunter"). Written by Chan Heng Ka, Vincent Kok, and Cheng Kam Fa.

Plot: Jet Li is a contract killer (or an ex-soldier willing to kill for money) after an assassin of a Yakuza boss. The boss had set up a reward for the one who catches his killer. A reward of One Hundred Million Dollars ($50 million for catching killer, $50 million for finding the ones who hired the killer).

Review: Like "Romeo Must Die," this film uses rap music as its movie music. Unlike that "Romeo" movie, I've never heard of this Jet Li film, and am confused by it. Due to the lack of Chinese language options, and based on the type of movie music, the movie seems as if it was intended for USA release (or rerelease), but I've never heard of it (though the movie appears to be badly dubbed and I believe that at one point, Jet Li's voice changes (odd they wouldn't have Chinese language option)).

I think that the movie is supposed to be something of a comedy, and there are some funny moments, but the humor seems a little off (especially considering the enormous blood spillage). This movie is not at all like I expected. I expected Li to be, and act, like an assassin. Instead he is mostly a novice (a skilled one, due to be an ex-soldier), and seems at first to be incompetent (maybe "slow"). Despite these comments, the actions scenes are interesting, while the comedy scenes, for the most part, are not (and the evil guys have some neat tricks).

The acting was average, the plot was somewhat interesting, the action scenes were good, but the comedy and music were, mostly, off-putting. Overall, I would give the movie 3.20 stars.
