Nice! Very Nice! 5 out of 5 stars.

A great selection of rare films for a terrific price.
General Stone with Dorian Tan alone is worth the price of this set.
Devil Killer is a masterpiece by Venoms action director Robert Tai.
North and South Shaolin is a rare classic.
Shaolin Iron Claws has Chang Yi as Silver Fox.Need I say more!
Revenge of Drunken Master is a strange Jacke like film that has some Drunken Boxing but is still entertaining.
Really nice packaging and the price can't be beat.
Check out Shaw Legends 10 film,Super Kung Fu Box and Martial Temple for real savings and great films.

5 movies that you will never watch again 2 out of 5 stars.

Well actaully I watched North and South Shaolin a few times but only for Cassanova Wong.

NORTH AND SHAOLIN-Cassanova Wong stars as a young monk who has to take down the majorly underused kung fu superstar Eagle Han. Sadly Eagle is in Godfrey Ho form and the action director does not know how to use him properly. Cassanova on the other hand looks superb but does not do near enough fighting. While the choreography is average at best, they speed up the film so much we can hardly see what the hell is going on in the fights.

The story is not really worth going over. Eagle Han(Han Ying) plays your standard government bad guy.

2 things that really stood out to me was the great training sequence with bamboo that Cassanova has and in the final fight you will see a couple of short action scenes that Donnie Yen ripped off for 'Legend of the Wolf'. Then this movie rips off that sweet kick that Cassanova does in the finale of 'Warriors Two'. Sadly the final fight is not great but the last 12 minutes are still worth a watch for any kung fu fan.

Picture quality from Video Asia is not very good but it is LETTERBOXED!!!!

2/5

SHAOLIN IRON CLAWS-Don Wong Tao(Secret Rivals) stars as a cop who has a secret document and everybody tries to kill him. This movie is sad since it tries so hard to be a Lee Tso-Nan kind of movie. While it does manage to make sense all the way through, that doesn't stop it from being nothing that we haven't seen before and very boring. It is great to see Li-Yi-min as Wong Tao's friend and while the kung fu is good all the way throughout the movie, it becomes too repetitive and kind of boring. Chang Yi shows up as the Silver Fox at the end for his only action sequence and it is a good one. The twist at the end didn't exactly make it a great movie or anything but does lead to a good fight.

I am really stuck between a 2 and 3 but because of Chen Sing appearing at the beginning and then again a little later on looking very sinister, though he does no fighting what so ever in this movie. He has a really weird crystal that is like imbedded into his fist that we see at the beginning but we never see him fight, in fact after his 2 scenes in the movie, he doesn't show up again. The only explanation I have is this is a cut version and that could also explain why the story istn't very well done. Another great release from the masters of putting out horrible versions of great movies, thanks Video Asia.

Picture quality is standard Video Asia quality, full screened and bad quality but still watchable.

2.5/5

REVENGE OF THE DRUNKEN MASTER-This one seemed like it was going to be pretty good. Wong Fei Hung music at the start and a guy who seems to be decent at acrobatics. Then he fights the Blood ninja gang, a minute into the movie! Then I struggle through a bit more and Eagle Han shows up as one of the heroes!!!! So basically it becomes pretty much unwatchable whenever the "Drunken Kid" fights because he is so bad with the choreopgraphy, but then Eagle Han starts lighting people up with his fist forms and unbeatable kicks. There is a hilarious moment in the finale when the bad guy uses these stupid symbols to throw at the 2 heroes, then he runs away. Drunken Kid screams out for him to come back then immediately the villian comes back and says "I'm back". Now if anyone knows what was up with Eagle Han putting his finger into Drunken Kid's belly button at the end to gain super powers or something and then still gettign whooped on then let me know. But, this is a Godfrey Ho movie so if you have come up with a conclusion for the belly button thing, you may have some serious problems.

Picture quality is watchable on the Video Asia version and it is probably in it's original format since I don't even know if Godfrey Ho knows what widecreen is.

2/5

GENERAL STONE- So this movie is basically just a very bad version of Joseph Kuo's 'Unbeaten 28'. Tis movie was probably made first but the sets look to be from the 20's. Polly Kwan looks great like always but Tan doesn't get to show off too much. Basically the story is that he finds out his dad turned to stone a long time ago and is a statue now. He learns from his stone dad and his stone friends and then goes to help Polly Kwan take on Lung Fei. This movie is truly about as bad as you can get. The only thing I enjoyed was watching one of my favorite females tear people up and Lung Fei uses one of the most laughable weapons ever in the finale.

Only 79 minutes long and it is all the better for it. Picture quality from Video Asia is not the worst but it is a pretty bad pan and scan job though you do get to see most of the action.

1/5

DEVIL KILLER-I hate to say it but it almost seems possible that Godfrey Ho could have helped this movie out. He could have put in some super stupid stuff that would at least have gotten a smile out of me. Robert Tai directs this and it seems to just be a movie they shot in a day or 2 while they were filming good movies like 'Secret Rivals 3' and 'Incredible Kung Fu Mission' and even the wonderfully bad 'Shaolin Vs. Ninja'. You have the entire cast from those movies, and even a couple of new faces that are nice to see. Lo Rei shows up at the end of the movie and only has 1 fight scene other than the finale. And what an unspectacular finale it was. I would go over all the names but it is sad to see them all in such a poor movie. Even Wong Chi-Sang makes his patented cameo appearence along with the young muscled up monk who tells Lo Rei and William Yen they can't watch the monks practice in 'Shaolin Vs. Lama'. The names are endless. Now the kung fu is not bad, not too slow or anything, but just like the rest of the movie they put no creativity and nothing new into it. By far the worst movie I have ever seen from the great Robert Tai(Tai Cher) but hopefully it remains the worst. Even Fist of Legends 2 I found to be a better movie than this. Very sad.

Picture quality is full screened but you can still tell that by the camera job that this movie was a super rushed job and while it would have helped to have the movie widescreened it would have pointed out the flaws of the movie even more. Sadly, I can't blame Video Asia for ruining this movie.

1.5/5

There is also a kung fu demonstration from Hsiao Ho that is short but sweet and a good interview with him. These are the same special features on all 5 movies in this boxed set. So if you see North and Shaolin or Shaolin Iron Claws or even Revenge of the Drunken Master as a single disc item, those are mildly recommended from me because of Ho's interview.

HK combines rousing adventure with soap opera-ish frame 3 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Wai and the Scripture With No Words is a rousing adventure tale set in pre World War II China. Dr. Wai, known as the King of Adventurers, is a writer and archaeologist in the mold of Indiana Jones, and a renowned finder of missing artifacts.

He is also the alter-ego of his creator, Chow Si-Kit, played by Jet Li. Chow Si-Kit is a beleagered writer of serialized adventure tales whose own life is in a tailspin. His wife, Monica (Rosamund Kwan) wants a separation and is going to great lengths to insure the break with her husband.

His rotten homelife is intruding upon Si-kit's work. He is suffering from writers block and cannot seem to move the adventures of Dr. Wai forward--risking his livelihood.

Fortunately, Chow Si-Kit has friends in the publishing house where he works. Shing (Takeshi Kaneshiro) is an eager young writer who befriends Si-Kit and tries his best to support him in his marital troubles and help break his writer's block. When that effort is unsuccessful, he enlists the aid of Yvonne, a pretty young colleague and together they begin to ghost write the adventure of Dr. Wai and the Scripture With No Words. Shing is represented in the tale by an alter-ego--also named Shing who is sidekick and disciple to Dr. Wai

The Scripture is actually a two fold artifact which has, in the course of time been sundered into its components. The first is a seemingly ordinary wooden box, with an inscribed lid--which can kill and maim the unsuspecting who open it. The second is a scripture scroll which, when joined with the box creates an oracle which can tell the future. Many nefarious and greedy types are looking for the two artifacts for their own ends. Dr Wai has more than one occasion to engage the villains in martial arts battle, providing a showcase for Jet Li's impressive physical prowess.

Shing and Yvonne, who are engaged in a budding romance of their own, soon steer the serial into the area of romance, even while Chow Si-Kit is being ever more plagued by his personal life. After a very public argument in front of the entire writing department, Monica falls prey to a freak accident, and Si-Kit is himself injured while trying to rush her to the hospital.

A little hospitalization does not long hold up the serial however, as Shing and Yvonne repair to their friend's bedside, simultaneously holding vigil and pushing the story forward. Si-Kit, soured on romance, soon attempts to push his creation firmly back to manly adventure even as he recuperates.

The plot of the film within the film lurches forward in a somewhat non-linear way as the "novel by committee" is wrested to and fro between its authors. Ultimately the lines between reality and fiction become less distinct, as a convalescing Monica begins to see her husband in a new light. Coming into his room and finding him asleep and his friends gone, she makes contributions to the novel herself.

The dual plots wind down, one to a bittersweet end, the other more hopeful.

Jet Li is very appealing in the dual roles of Chow Si-Kit and Dr. Wai "King of Adventurers". Where Chow Si-Kit is a bit of a bumbler and a man victimized by life, Dr. Wai is a capable and fearless in his pursuit of his objective. Takeshi Kaneshiro shines as the two Shings, both stalwart and steadfast in their support of their friends. Rosamund Kwan is the perfect ice princess as Monica, and her alterego, Cammy. Charlie Yeung is excellent as Yvonne and the editor's assistant who is instrumental in bringing the two aspects of the Scripture With No Words together.

Once Upon a Time for an Average Sequel 3 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Well, on the outside, it would appear that Jet Li had made a triumphant return to the series that made his career. In reality, this sequel falls short of the glory of the past titles. You should know that Jet Li was replaced for Once Upon a Time in China 4 and 5. (This being the sixth) Those movies were also very much below the quality of the first two. I suppose this movie does a better job than the Vincent Zhao vehicles that are OUATIC 4 and 5, but not by much. I must say these movies are very similar. I can tell you this, the storyline deals with the whole fish out of water ordeal. The big twist in this movie is that Jet Li bangs his head on a rock and thinks he is a native american indian. Then with some coaxing from his friend, Clubfoot, (read: fighting) he goes back to normal. In my opinion the romance between Jet Li and Roseamund Kwan has never been a strong point in the series. Much like Shanghai Noon, this movie goes out with a whimper, not a bang when Jet Li fights some evil looking goth cowboyesque character on top of a platform. I have to say, the fina fight scene is sub par for any Kung Fu Film and especially Jet Li. So in the end, go enjoy Once Upon a Time in China one and two. Go enjoy the gangster masterpiece Once Upon a Time in America, but be weary of the sub-par Kung Fu/Westerner that is Once Upon a Time in China and America. I recommend "Rikki-Oh" cause as far as Kung Fu movies, it's the poorest produced flick i have ever seen, but it's also the funniest. Check it out now.

Sort of dumb classic...bonditos rob bonditos 4 out of 5 stars.

The drug load gets robbed by 4 semi-crazy, nothing to lose,
North Americans. They get either captured by the soldiers or the bonditos.
5 million dollars in back packs and the little white guard dog bait
becomes strange kind of dreadful comedy of error:while a good time wasn't had by all there was a break out comedy and much shooting away from a dreadful silly ending.

Rip Off! 1 out of 5 stars.

Saw this movie many years ago, and bought a copy to give it another watch.

So much for quality. The manufacturer appeared to have just taken an old copy of the film and slapped it on a DVD. The colors were faded and the sound track was fuzzy--almost garbled.

And to make matters worse, the film wasn't as good as I had remembered, but if it was a favorite, the poor quality of reproduction makes it worthless.

Lindsay Wagner Got Ripped Off 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This picture opened in theaters around the country in May of 1981 starring James Brolin as Steve, Anthony Quinn as Marino, The Beautiful Lindsay Wagner as Olivia, James Coburn as Serrano and Ernest Borgine as Clint. This movie is about four Americans that are broke and tired of being poor Steve is the ring leader and gets the other three guys to tell there wives and girl friends that there going on a fishing trip. So they put the usually things in Steve's truck like sleep bags, fishing poles, nets, and tackle boxes. So Steve and his three friends head down the road until they come to and open field and stops. Along comes Clint who's a side winder who deals in anything from rifles, guns, knifes, machine guns and anything else you can use if you're going to drop in on someone. When Steve's three friends find out what kind of fire power there going to need they start to have second thoughts. Steve talks them out of leaving and so they sit and wait until the plane arrives. The plane that there waiting for is going to take them to Mexico where a man named Serrano lives who has millions of dollars in his safe with high walls and guards to watch the place. So Steve and friends hold up outside of the walls where Serrano hides waiting for the right moment to attack the place. One of Steve's friends has a white female poodle that they lower over the wall to attract the guard dogs in which it does. So the men go over the walls, sneak in the building, downstairs to where the safe is only to found out that the combination was changed. So Steve and another man go up stairs to get Serrano to bring him down to open the safe. Steve and his men get the money but while on there way out they get into s shootout not only with Serrano army but the Mexican Army also and end up in a Mexican Bull Ring with a real live bull. As the men are on the run two of them get caught while Steve and another get away. The two that where caught ended up in one of Serrano cells. Along comes Olivia who has been in one of Serrano cells for along time. Meanwhile Steve and the man that's with him get caught up by a bunch of bandits. Along comes Marino who's a poor Mexican along with there people who track Steve down and take there money. Will Steve and the man survive these Bandits? What about the two men that is in Serrano custody? What happens to Olivia and does she ever get out of Serrano cuffs? Some thoughts of my own on this movie. I thoughts this was a good movie because it did have adventure, action and drama. I bought this movie because Lindsay Wagner was in it. I wasn't disappointed with here acting or how beautiful she is, I was disappointed that it took almost 30 minutes before we saw her. Her talents were wasted in this movie and someone that looks like she does she be the leading actress. On Lindsay Wagner I give her 10 weasel stars because I could watch her all day. The movie itself I give 7 weasel stars

ALL DUBBED! aaugh 2 out of 5 stars.
10 of 12 people found this review helpful.

ALl 4 movies in this set are dubbed in English. I was horribly disappointed. Dont make the same mistake I did. Find the dubbed ones.

These are Dubbed, but still the best 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Yes, it is correct that these are dubbed in English and have new English titles. But who cares? What the title and language is in don't have nothing to do with Jet Li and the film. These still are considered to be Jet Li's best films, or if not the best, some of the Top 10 by far.

I have watched the HK films of each of these movies, that just have English Subtitles. But like many millions of people, I really don't like watching a movie and trying to read it at the same time. It takes attention off of watching the action, with having to read whats said. I still love the regular movies, don't get me wronge. But I praise for these movies Dubbed in English. I love it. Cause now I can watch the movie 100% without having to read it. Yes, some of the orginal langauge after dubbed in English was slightly changed to say different stuff. But still yet, its still very good movies, just awesome movies.

So, to all those that just wanna see the films and love Jet Li, these are very worth getting and collecting. I love having them all in a Collection Set, instead of having each seprate. I believe makes it much easier and more organized with these sets. And if you love collection Jet Li sets, I would very reccommend getting along with this Once Upon a Time in China 1, 2, & 3 collection set also.

Editorial Review:

Actor and martial arts maestro Jet Li and iconoclastic director Tsui Hark revisit historical China and legendary folk hero Wong Fei Hung in the second installment to the wildly popular Once Upon a Time in China film series (or better yet, "serials"). The main players include Li as Wong Fei Hung, Rosamund Kwan as his beloved but Westernized Auntie 13, and their clumsy sidekick Foon (Max Mok). China is in a period of political unrest. Dr. Sun Yat Sen is beginning to gain momentum behind his Nationalist party. A Qing minister (played with intensity by skilled fighter Donnie Yen) firmly carries out his job as police enforcer and a crazed cult called the White Lotus Sect has decided to take matters into their own hands by bullying citizens and destroying everything foreign. Wong and his crew find themselves at odds with the minister and the Sect, who have more in common than they initially let on. It all leads to some high-octane action scenes, including an all-out table-stacking and airborne brawl with the Sect (in which Wong uncharacteristically goes a little berserk himself) and a one-on-one matchup between Li and Yen. Tsui juggles the multilayered plot while Li juggles his opponents in a perfectly serviceable epic that is perhaps not as significant as the first Once Upon a Time in China but is solid kung fu nourishment for fans. --Shannon Gee

The Almighty Chief Executive One-Stop Kung Fu Must-Have!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This is the Kung Fu documentary you've been searching for. It has it all. Watch it over and over again. It's mind boggling that this documentary was even allowed to be made, let alone seen by western eyes. It exposes the heart, soul, and spirit of
traditional Chinese martial arts, seemingly covering the entire range of Kung Fu styles. Enough praise cannot be given. This documentary set the standard by which I will judge others from now on.

where were the dinosaurs??? 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 29 people found this review helpful.

well, as much as i appreciate the effort shown on Jet's part to do a wholesome kung fu documentary, i really must protest the total lack of dinosaurs. What the heck? you really can't expect a decent, God-fearing American to sit through hours of this mindless drivel when there are no dnosaurs present... honestly... Good kung fu, totally worthless special effects, the one lizard that i happened to notice looked like it was an iguana just chilling on the set, i mean, did they even want it to look like a dinosaur? Sometimes i think they didn't... that's how bad it was.
Trust me, if you are looking for kung fu action without the dinosaurs, you're wasting your time. If you're not retarded and want some Rex Kwon Do, you know that you should be looking for some real action.

yes this review was a joke. I'm bored. I haven't actually seen the documentary, but i'd like to.

Editorial Review:

Set in the era when China was just beginning to establish relations with Europe, Once upon a Time in China 3 is a mixture of politics, intrigue, broad comedy, and kung fu action. Charismatic Jet Li stars once again as Wong Fei-hung, a legendary Chinese hero who is a doctor, a pacifist, and an amazingly skilled martial artist. Like many Hong Kong films, this movie has a woefully complicated plot: in summary, a kung fu competition not only sparks a bitter rivalry between different martial arts associations, it also becomes the linchpin in an assassination plot. But this leaves out Wong Fei-hung's increasingly romantic relationship with his aunt (played by Rosamund Kwan), the rehabilitation of one of the villain's henchmen, and the introduction of a steam engine to a Chinese factory, among other subplots! Once upon a Time in China 3 is not the strongest in the series--the subtitling is unusually clumsy, the editing is rough, the plot is confusing, and the melodrama is more crudely played than in the other films--but there's still a clear, raw authority to the storytelling that is a hallmark of director-producer Hark Tsui (Peking Opera Blues, Green Snake). Though it seems to have been made in a rush, Once upon a Time in China 3 will still reward devotees of Hong Kong films, and the frequent and wild fight scenes will appeal to action fans. --Bret Fetzer
