This is going to be tough to explain, but I will try my best 2 out of 5 stars.

Using a few minutes of footage from Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, someone tried to make this seem like a sequel. The original name of this movie is 'Snaky Knife Fight Against Mantis', and it is a decent Don Wong Tao flick. There are a couple of scenes where they show Jackie Chan fighting and I guess this is supposed to link the 2 movies together. Wong Tao is supposed to be playing Jackie, but the best thing to do is to just ignore the Jackie footage when it comes on. The story is already horribly done, and the spliced in footage doesn't help.

The story is very badly done, and not even worth going over. This is one of the rare times that I will not talk about the story at all. It is just pure nonsense, and the editing is some of the worst I have ever seen. The director obviously didn't care about the story. I can forgive a movie for having a bad story as long as it moves along at a good pace and has good fight scenes. The movie is boring, but luckily the fights scenes are really good, and there are plenty of them. The first fight has Alan Chui and some other guy going up against Wong Tao and Carter Wong. If you don't know who Alan Chui is, then I highly recommend checking him out in movies like Seven Grandmasters and Shaolin Temple Against Lama. He fills up the screen with uncountable movements and is maybe the fanciest screen fighter of all time. It's a shame he only gets about 2 minutes of action. Lung Fei (Kung Pow! Enter the Fist and Death Duel of the Mantis) shows up next, and this is THE best fighting performance I have ever seen from him, which is saying quite a lot since he has been in well over a hundred movies. I never knew he had moves like this.

If you are not a big kung fu fan, this movie will definitely test your patience. So if you end up just fast forwarding to the fight scenes, make sure you at least watch these- Carter Wong vs. Lung Fei, Chen Sing vs Wong Tao (they fight twice) and Lung Fei vs. Wong Tao (they also fight twice). These fights are worth a watch for any fu fan.

This is a hard movie to rate. The story is about as bad as it gets, but some of the fights are sublime. Don Wong Tao is on fire. I admit that I fast forwarded 20 minutes or so, but if you are a fan of Wong Tao or Lung Fei, you can't pass this one up.

2.5/5

Picture quality on the Xenon DVD isn't too bad, and the Enlgish dubbing is funny at times. Sound is fine.

An orphan saves the life of an old beggar, a master of the Snake Fist technique. In gratitude he passes his knowledge along to the youngster, who then becomes a kung fu avenger. Jackie Chan at his classic best!

One more thing! 3 out of 5 stars.

Having taped Jackie Chan Adventures on both Kids WB! and Cartoon Network, and having recently purchased all three JCA DVDs used (never pay retail!) I can WITHOUT A DOUBT say that these episodes are intact AND that they are edited.

Wha?! You ask.

Depends on the episode. Some are completely intact. Some are missing from a few seconds to a few minutes. This has more to do with each DVD's combining three episodes into a "movie". While some complain that the intros are missings, this is not completely accurate as some are and some are not. Some actually have trimmed scenes... Where these DVDs really deviate is by playing one opening credit, all three episodes in "movie format", then all three "Ask Jackie" spots and finally a combined ending credits. Strangely, though they use the opening theme music during the end credits as adopted in later seasons NOT the "Chan is the Man" song originally used.

Why Columbia/Tri-Star (Sony distributes the show, but not the DVDs) chose to go with the "movie format" instead of just a straight-forward Episode 1, Episode 2, etc. and then stopped making the DVDs with Episode 9 is beyond me. I would like to see a Season One, Season Two, Season Three, and Season Four box set (especially since JCA has been picked up for a fifth season) with each episode being treated as an individual, hence my only giving these DVDs three stars each.

Amazing 5 out of 5 stars.

I can definetly say that I reccomend this film. The first and second were great and the third was just as good. People who say this is a bad film probaly are just jealous or have no taste to begin with. Generally when the critics say a movie is just terrible its one of the best films of the year. I just love how it bridges ethnicity and racial barriers while poking fun at both of them at the same time. Oh and a little note to all the people who don't like this movie. Filming for number 4 has begun in Moscow already.

Another gift for a good friend 5 out of 5 stars.

I sent this movie to a good friend of mine who just loves the previous two RUSH HOUR movies. He loves this movie. He recommends it. He is into marital arts movies. I too like marital arts movie and fan of Jackie Chan. This is a good movie to add to any movie collection

The best handwork Jackie Chan has ever performed 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

During an awesome opening tournament scene with Hsu Hsia taking on all comers, he gets killed, and his student played by Jackie Chan goes to take revenge. He goes with his master's wife and daughter to find the killer. But when he gets there, we find out that this man is very sorry for what he did. There's a bit more to the story, but I don't want to give it away. It's not a great story, but darker than most kung fu movies. I didn't see Jackie smile once. He gives a great acting performance, and an even better fighting performance. This is the most hate I have ever seen from Jackie. No comedy, he just tears people up with his awesome kung fu.

Yen Shi Kwan, Eagle Han Ying, James Tien and Chui Fat also star, and they all give fine performances. This is the best I have ever seen James Tien look next to his performance in Bone Crushing Kid. Jackie worked him really hard on this movie.

3.5/5

The Columbia Tristar DVD has awesome picture quality, a good sounding Chinese dub, and the original oldschool English dub (not one of those crappy dubs you hear sometimes). This version is cut, so if you want to see it uncut you should get the PAL Hong Kong Legends version.

All 3 of these movies are very good and i recommend buying them
i must have seen each of these films more than 10 times

Mr. Nice Guy and First Strike are both excellent movies to watch and get at [local store] if you can't get it here!

This action pack could contain Shanghai Noon instead of Rumble in the Bronx. Opt-out for Rumble in the Bronx since it is Hong Kong style...meaning you will have to deal with foreign language spoken while someone in English interprets. Kind of weird if you ask me. It is like Drunken Master where you have to listen carefully.

Fox/Fortune Star gives us teh movie with great picture quality, good sound, and widescreened 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The movie starts out with a really cool scene showing the destruction of the Shaolin Temple. Look for a quick cameo by Wilson Tong. Sammo is in a cool role as like a general. His buckteeth look a bit stupid but his fighting doesn't. THIS IS A DORIAN TAN MOVE but Jackie Chan is great in his small role as a man looking to help out Tan take care of the villian played by james Tien. The story is not going to go down as one of the best ever told. A swordsman comes to help them out and they take down the evil guys. The thing that really stood out is Jackie playing a serious role. He does it very well and his fight with a spear was awesome. Sammo and Dorian Tan have a good fight. Really good fighting all around. The final fight is not spectacular but James Tien puts on a good performance.

The DVD is great. Widecreened, great picture quality, and dual language tracks. Just about all that you could ask for.

Wow - this really *is* a cheap bootleg - DO NOT BUY!!! 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

NOTE - THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE MOVIE BUT A WARNING THAT WHAT AMAZON IS SHIPPING IS AN INCREDIBLY CHEAP AND OBVIOUS BOOTLEG.

Seriously. I figured the few people who had reported this were kooks, but they're not - this *is* a bootleg, and a terrible one at that. You can find better bootlegs on streetcorners in NY. The cover is obviously photocopied, and the disc itself is a DVD-R that comes conveniently pre-scratched. Worse than that, though, is the fact that this is *obviously* a rip of a VHS tape that was poorly transferred and completely uncropped. I'll be filing a complaint with Amazon.

Editorial Review:

Along with Drunken Master, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow launched a new fusion of comedy and kung fu. And it's easy to see why Snake has been so popular--it's easily the most engaging of Jackie Chan's early films. Everyone abuses and humiliates a downtrodden orphan (Chan) until he befriends an old man, who turns out to be the last master of the "snake fist" fighting style. Jackie becomes the old man's student and finds himself in battle with the master of the "eagle's claw" style, who has vowed to destroy the snake fist clan. Though these plot elements are familiar stuff, they're all executed with outstanding verve; the performances, the fight choreography, and even the obligatory training sequence are unusually complex and well filmed. Jackie is in top form and coming into his own as a star. --Bret Fetzer

Why American production make HK movies look so cheap? First of all, they cut off so much scene, second of all ruin it by making look acting so dumb by English Dubb. For ANY of HK movies, ALWAYS stick with ORIGINAL LICENSED HK RELEASE. Be careful with cheap imports, boots though.

Editorial Review:

Another early kung fu flick from Jackie Chan's Wei Lo period (Wei Lo, who also directed Fists of Fury with Bruce Lee, directed seven of Chan's early films), Spiritual Kung Fu (alternatively titled Karate Ghostbuster) has Chan playing a familiar character--the bumbling underdog. Chan is a Shaolin monastery student whose fighting style and wits aren't quite up to par. Dissension and panic arise in the temple when a thief steals the book of the Seven Fist Style, a form of kung fu that allegedly makes its masters invincible. While guarding the temple's library, Chan comes across a lost book that teaches the Five Style Fists, which can defeat the Seven Fist Style. What's more, the book comes with five mischievous spirits that teach the style to Chan. When the monastery is challenged by the man who stole the Seven Fist Style, the spirits help Chan defeat him. The DVD transfer and voice dubbing are more akin to a Saturday afternoon television matinee than a technical tour de force, but the story certainly lends itself to its presentation. A campy and uneven effort (what else can you say about a movie in which spirits don white body paint and bright red fright wigs?), Spiritual Kung Fu, like the Wei Lo-directed Half a Loaf of Kung Fu, was shelved for a couple of years before being released in 1978. --Shannon Gee

Well, at least its entertaining 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love Jackie Chan, so it pains me to give this movie a mediocre at best review. There must be some contract with action stars that requires them to do a lame baby movie at least once in their carreer (I'm looking at you Vin Diesel). As to this one, its not per se a bad movie, the action is decent, but the story is fairly weak, following the usual, "I'm so cool I don't need kids around, but wait I reluctantly have to take care of a kid, and after some time really like the kid and eventually must save it" story. There are of course the standard poopy diaper and peeing in the face jokes one would expect as well. So why didn't I give it one star, well, the actors are pretty good, given what they have. And Jackie pulls off a few great action/comedy moments. So in all, the movie is not particularly great, but was watchable. Recomended if you're looking for another jackie chan film, or are really into cliche baby movies.
