Good action and stunts, but a mindless story 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Jackie Chan is a tow truck driver and lives with his dad and sisters at their junkyard. He also enjoys race car driving and helps the police capture a killer who also likes to race cars. When Jackie outdrives the killer and helps the police catch him, the killer tells Jackie that he wants a real race. In a couple of very illogical scenes the killer gets broken out of prison and kidnaps Jackie's sister. Jackie has to race him to get his sister back. The story is really bad and the only good thing about the movie is the action, but even that has its flaws.

There is one very long action sequence where Jackie tries to rescue his sister. Jackie fights about 20 people including Ken Lo who gets to show off his amazing kicking skills. Jackie is doubled a lot, but it is the wirework and the way they shoot the scene that bugged me. They use a weird frame rate and this action scene is way too stylized for my tastes. On the positive side, there is some great stuntwork in this scene and a fantastic finsish.

There is a lot of car racing and the car stunts are done very well. Most Jackie Chan movies have a big final fight at the end, but this one ends with a mildly exciting car race. But this race would have been a lot more exciting if it was better directed and if the story had more thought put into it. This was a hard movie to sit through.

2.5/5

Picture quality on the New Line DVD is perfect. Both the English and Cantonese tracks sound perfect. SUbtitles are well written.

low-kicking non sequel, at least it doesn't continue anything from the last movie. 1 out of 5 stars.

Well I guess michelle is still a cop like she was in the last one, she just isn't funny or good whatsoever in this.

So I read a review that said that this is a michelle film and they are right. What they didn't say is that this is the most boring hong kong flick ever. Not one of them but the most boring and one of the stupidest.

The movie actually starts out really good but when Rongguang Yu leaves michelle to herself, there is a ton of standing around.

Oh yeah the iron monkey is in this, and not even he can save it. i actually think that he could have saved it, but whoever directed this was obviously trying to get into michelle's pants. So obviosly he didn't and he was maybe trying to ruin her career.

I love michelle and could make it through this, but if you liked supercop 1 and are expecting to see something similiar, DO NOT WATCH THIS.

Also jackie is in drag in this movie, his scene last for 2-3 minutes and it is one of the 3-4 bright spots in the movie. JACKIE YOU RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Entertaining history of martial arts on film 4 out of 5 stars.
10 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Presented by Samuel L. Jackson, THE ART OF ACTION is an enjoyable and entertaining look at the history of matial arts films from its origins in Peking Opera in China, which was performed by men in women's clothing. Strangely, the first kung fu features were made with the WOMEN doing all the fighting as film was then considered a lower medium in China, and it was "dishonorable" for men to stoop to that level!
Of course, no film about martial arts could be made without Bruce Lee, "The James Bond Of Martial Arts". Here viewers are treated to footage from RETURN OF THE DRAGON where Lee beats the bejesus out of a young Chuck Norris, as well as hearing Lee's philosophies on kung fu, which remain intriguing and inspiring no matter how many times you hear them.
THE ART OF ACTION also features appearances from Jackie Chan, recounting his experiences as part of a Peking Opera troupe at age 7, as well as ruminations by John Woo, Ang Lee and Steven Seagal. There's plenty here to educate and entertain viewers, though stranglely Hammer's martial arts/ horror film LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES is overlooked here... but Cynthia Rothrock's cruddy movies get some attention! I just don't get it! That remains my only quibble. Also features clips from more recent films like RUSH HOUR 2 and CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON.
If you like this, you may want to check out the similar documentary CINEMA OF VENGEANCE which is about the history of martial arts and Hong Kong action films, though personally I found THE ART OF ACTION to be more entertaining. Both movies are highly recommended.

ORIGINAL IS WAAY BETTER~! 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 15 people found this review helpful.

If you want UNCUT ORIGINAL version, ALWAYS look for ORIGINAL LICENSED Production. NOT US Release. Its a foreign film, it should not be US version to begin with~! HELLO!!!?? Why settle for LESS with US Version where they edit and cut so many excellent scenes especially with Jackie's Fighting Scenes. And US Release ruins the speed and sound as well. I have been collecting Jackie Chan's movies both HK and US Release Version for quite some time now. I found HK Version to be MUCH MORE in enjoyable, and HIGHER in Quality. American Market always like to "Americanize" and "Control". Regional Code Regulation thing is one of the example to CONTROL the Market. Why not let everyone enjoy the same HK Original Release move the same way ENTIRE WORLD enjoys it ?? No one makes Hollywood American movies to "French version" or "Chinese Version" ~! This what Americans are doing~! Well, enjoy the cheap "American version" then~! LOL

Editorial Review:

In Jackie Chan's first American movie, Chan and Danny Aiello (Do the Right Thing, Moonstruck) are cops who don't play by the rules. They're sent to Hong Kong to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a wealthy New York scumbag who's mixed up with an insidious heroin kingpin; to investigate, they go to a massage parlor, where the women try to kill them in the middle of providing sexual favors. It's not surprising that the gunplay is mundane, but even Chan's fight sequences are banal and unsurprising. The only entertainment value comes from absurdities, like a band of carjackers dressed like Adam and the Ants, or a sequence where it's revealed that the smuggled heroin is stashed inside of melons--and the stashing process is, inexplicably, performed by naked women. Jackie also swears; apparently the director thought he was making a Dirty Harry movie. An embarrassment. --Bret Fetzer

Something a bit different from the team of Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, Heart of Dragon has action scenes and comedy, but also tells the dramatic tale of two brothers who are torn between duty and dreams. Tat Fung (Chan) has recently left a S.W.A.T.-type agency for the local police force to take care of his mentally disabled older brother Do-do (Hung). Although Do-do is a full grown man, he has the mental capacity of a young child and is always getting into mischief. Tat has put away his dreams of marriage and traveling the world as a sailor to watch after Do-do. While playing cops and robbers with his kid friends, Do-do gets mixed up in a jewelry heist and is kidnapped by the bad guys. Tat momentarily puts aside his official law-enforcer status and takes matters into his own hands, which results in serious repercussions. The fight sequences in Heart of Dragon are closer to such American films as Die Hard; Tat and his S.W.A.T.-team buddies take on the bad guys in an unfinished building with zero comedy and lots of bloodshed. At a crucial impasse in the story Tat lashes out at Do-do, and this poignant scene perfectly illustrates the frustrations of a man who loves and hates his brother at the same time. It's a switch from the usual fare, and Heart of Dragon offers ample proof that Chan and Hung can handle dramatic material. --Shannon Gee

Vampire grappling 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

The Twins and Ekin Cheng team up to take on vampires. Now first of all the story is the only thing I had a problem with in this movie. They don't explain a whole lot but they really don't need to. It is not a long movie and they mainly just focus on one plot point and the rest of the movie is fighting vampires. Ekin Cheng is a vampire hunter and when his partner dies he gets a new one. She is a little wild and does not like Ekin's sister. They have a fight on the rooftop with poles and while you can tell they don't know martial arts, this scene is a lot better than it should be with Donnie Yen's choreography. Ekin Chen though just surprises me more and more everytime I see him. He has a great one on one grappling type of fight and just looks outstanding in the opening scene. His acting is of course excellent as well. So Ekin's sister actually falls in love with a vamire who is being hunted by the like super vampire. I don't know what video game they took the story from but it makes for a great final fight. And I mean AWESOME!!!! The vampire grappling was great. NONE of the fights are going to blow your mind but there is just something about those twins getting down and dirty. Also look out for a great cameo from Jackie Chan and Karen Mok.
