Action Packed Double Feature 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Aside of the fact that these movies are a double feature, they come on one disc. If u are a fan Jackie Chan then u will like Rumble in the Bronx. It's a half action half comedy movie that will entertain you. Chow Yun-Fat delivers thrilling, action-packed performance in The Corruptor from beginning to end.

Great to get both cheap! 5 out of 5 stars.

If you liked them on video, here's a chance to get both cheap and in DVD quality. I bought it just for Rumble in the Bronx and found The Corrupter a great bonus!

Perspective for conscientious parents: 5 out of 5 stars.

This movie was pretty funny, the kids were cute, and the overarching themes of telling the truth and protecting your loved ones are great points of discussion with children. For those that love Jackie Chan movies, you might be a little disappointed that there is not as much action in this movie and some of the stunts are obviously on wires. But it is a movie for kids/families, so the level and excitement of the stunts seemed appropriate to me. A few things I would want to be aware of as a parent before watching the movie with my child: 1)the female villain often shows a lot of cleavage 2)The 13 year old daughter seems to get away with being very disrespectful to the mom (though it is kind of explained a little later in the movie) 3)there is a little profanity 4)a college age young man hits on the 13 year old daughter (though Jackie doesn't let him get away with it) 5)the young boy in the movie boasts about watching pornography on pay-per view 6)he is also obsessed with getting older girls to show interest in him and receives some tips from Jackie on how to accomplish it.

When Gillian suddenly has to leave town, Bob volunteers to babysit the children so he can earn their approval. Funny Action Movie 5 out of 5 stars.

Just like the first two films, Rush Hour 3 brings the same great performances by Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. The action is still there and the comedy is still funny. Yet the film doesn't really add much to the series it just doesn't ruin it. So if you liked the first two films than you will most likely like the third one.

Awesome!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Hilarious comedy based on a real race 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

If you love classic comedies, "Cannonball Run" is a must own, especially for all of the celebrities that take part in it. But, don't get the 2001 release which is only in DD 2.0 and that annoying clipper case. A brand-new 2009 DVD was released recently with 5.1 audio, superior picture and a fantastic audio commentary with director Hal Needham and producer Albert Ruddy. You learn so many fun facts about the film from it. For example, Burt and Dom's ambulance was a real race vehicle used by Hal and Brock Yates for one of the five real Cannonball Run races before the film was made where they raced it from Darion, Kentucky to Long Beach, California. It held 90 gallons of gasoline and they would get up to 145 MPH at times. A lot of the situations and characters in the movie were based on real events and people from the races. Burt, Dom, Jack Elam and Farrah's characters were all based on Hal and Brock, and a doctor and his wife that road with them during a race to make it seem like a legit ambulance if pulled over. One of the best audio commentaries I've heard in awhile and very funny. If you just want the commentary by itself, write me and I'll share it. Don't miss this movie if you have never seen it.

Editorial Review:

A wide variety of characters participate in an illegal cross-country road race. It's a hilarious comedic chase as the eccentric participants are willing to do anything to win.

POLICE STORY 5 out of 5 stars.

JACKIE CHAN'S 1 OF HIS 1ST MOVIES HAS A PLOT BUT STILL CAN TIL IT IS DONE N JAP.

Who'd be a stuntman on a Jackie Chan film? 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

You have to wonder who on Earth would grow up wanting to be one of Jackie Chan's stunt team - looking at Police Story it's pretty obvious that you'll spend more time in the hospital than on the set. These guys aren't faking getting hurt - they really are getting hurt, and you don't need to see the end credits outtakes montage of them being carried away to work that out. But then, it's not as if Jackie Chan isn't sharing their pain. If it looks like there's a real sense of danger, that's because there was.

Filmed comparatively cheaply (part of it even in Chan's own house) as a reaction to Chan's disappointment with US co-production The Protector, it's a mixture of impressive action, lacklustre plotting and broad comedy - this is the kind of film where the moment you see a birthday cake you know it'll end up in someone's face (the motivation can be found in this disc's deleted scenes if you're interested). If the comedy doesn't play so well with some Western audiences, there's no such qualms with the action, whether it's the 16-minute opening shanty town action scene that sees Chan hanging onto the outside of a speeding bus by an umbrella (and saw stuntmen hospitalised after a stunt stolen by Tango and cash went visibly wrong), and inventive fight scene in and around a car or the hardcore action finale in a shopping center where escalators, display cases, mirrors, lights, clothes racks and a motor bike (don't ask where that came from) all become deadly weapons. The bill for broken glass alone must have been huge, let alone the cost in broken bones.

It's not Chan's best film despite being one of his breakthrough hits, but it's certainly one of the best. Sadly Dragon Dynasty's Region 1 NTSC DVD doesn't have as good or as clean a transfer as Hong Kong Legends' UK disc: it's acceptable but there's a lot of grain and its clear that they haven't spent too much time restoring it even if the print is clear. Where it scores is in the extras - deleted scenes, alternate outtakes, and an interview with Chan, and original trailer among them.

Editorial Review:

Police Story breaks new ground with its breathtaking fights and incredible stunt sequences. Featuring a top-notch cast, which includes multi-award winning actresses Brigitte Lin & Maggie Cheung, director Chan combines a compelling storyline of an honest cop on the run from a false murder charge with dynamic visuals and full-blooded fight action which is electrified with emotional underscoring. In the case of this particular project the price of excellence was high, with many of Jackie's elite stunt team being seriously injured during the course of principal photography.

DRUNKEN MASTER

In 1978 a film came out that in my opinion revolutionized the industry and made one man a superstar, that film was "Jui Kuen aka Drunken Master" and that man was Jackie Chan. At the time movies were just not done like this especially in the Kung-Fu area until Chan stepped the game up, the original Kung Fu Hustle you could say. I have loved this film since the first time I was privileged to see it and truly believe it is one of the all time greats in film history, not just in its own genre. I can honestly say that I have never met any one who did not like this movie, any one who had seen it that is.

Wong Fei-Hung [Chan] is a very gifted and talented young man but his inability to take his craft seriously won't let him achieve his full potential. He acts out and does not listen to any one including his teacher at his father's school; in fact he likes to show the teacher up. He is also fond of showing up any and every one that he pleases and can but an unfortunate event involving a woman and her daughter land him in hot water with his father. After countless times of trying to make him learn a little something his father decides to bring in outside help in the form of Su Hua Chi [Siu Tien Yuen], a master of the 8 Drunken Gods fighting styles. Of course Wong is not keen on the idea and runs off in order to escape his responsibilities. That all changes after a brawl at a restaurant were the master saves him, and then begins to train him. The training is not going all that well and Wong runs off again only to run into a hit man named Thunderleg [Jang Lee Hwang] who destroys him and makes him realize how little he knows. Add in the fact that this man is out to kill his father Wong must now take his training seriously in order to not only save his father but find himself as well.

This film has got to be one of the most entertaining films I have ever seen in my life as it is full of excellent fight sequences and full of great humor. This was the first of its kind mixing the martial arts with slapstick humor and this happened because Jackie wanted to have a separate identity from Bruce Lee. What a grand idea it was because the result was this master piece that also added a new twist on an old character. Wong was one of the most popular characters in the genre's history and was a very serious character, until Chan came with this. The fight sequences are also another up side to this wonder film has with most Jackie flicks the film shines when he is on screen doing his thing. The actual fighting is amazing and the comedy gags mixed in with his facial expressions only add to the good time.

Directed by Woo-ping Yuen who was also a writer along side producer See-Yuen Ng and Hsiao Lung this is by far a classic and is well worth any price that is asked in my opinion. This DVD comes with a wonderful commentary that is full of info and is very interesting, and some trailers. This is a very fun movie and is with out a doubt a classic amongst classics, buy it now.

Lots of action and it makes you laugh as well. I would recommend seeing this one. It is very entertaining and lots of fun to watch.

Overall, a great martial art movie! 5 out of 5 stars.

A lot of low rating reviews are too picky. They pick out a single thing in the movie and say the whole movie is bad. I was surprised by a well rounded fantasy story mixed in with Chinese folk-tale. You simply can not compare it to the Chinese movies. Those tend to be darker with complex relationship and usually the fighting and killing are ruthless with body parts getting ripped apart. Maybe that is why reviewers are saying this is more family friendly. Overall, the story was well thought out. The kung fu fighting scenes were intense and top quality. All actors did very well in portraying their characters. I never watched it because I heard bad reviews from critics when the movie came out. Finally saw it. And I was thoroughly entertained. In terms of showing it to kids, there are still some spots of violence that are not for kids. I probably would limit this movie for kids at least 14 years old. One more thing. The bonus features are fantastic. I have the single disc version and it has quite a long list of bonus features. Make sure you watch all the bonus features!

Individually, they've starred in the most adrenaline-pumping martial-arts adventures ever. Together for the first time, Jet Li and Jackie Chan join forces to create the greates epic of them all- THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM. As ancient Chinese warriors, they must train and mentor a 21st century kung-fu fanatic who's been summoned to fight a centuries-old battle and free the imprisoned Monkey King. If you're a fighting fan, the wait is over. The team is ready. The Kingdom has arrived.

This is completely ridiculous... I have been waiting TEN YEARS for a domestic release with the original cantonese and when they rerelease this CLASSIC they release the same horrid DUB. Why even bother to release this?

Why o Why do we suffer so 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I love Jackie Chan and own most of his original HK movies. I have so much wanted them to migrate to blu-ray in their original form and from HK Flix we are starting to now get that. But why o why is it always a compromise with us fans? If we buy US versions we get bad dubbing and unoriginal soundtracks and horrible criminal MiramAXE edit cuts to Jackie's films. If we buy HK versions we get no choice of English dubbing and varied quality of transfer from good to down right horrible on some disks. The Weinstien Bros (Dragon Dynasty) had it right with their remastered DVDs of PS1 and 2, but what about the rest of the catalogue? Is there no sense in the film industry that these films need to be preserved in the best possible way as originally presented? Unedited, remastered, and transferred in the highest quality to take full advantage of what our blessed blu-ray has to offer? Is there not demand enough from us fans for that? We all agree these are FANTASTIC FILMS we want to watch again and again and again. Why are we fans complaining here and on many other film review comment pages the video quality of this film is no better than the DVD version? Why is there no choice for English dubbing on the uncut HK version? Are video editors uncaring, plain stupid, or just out for a quick buck? Hell even Jackie complains! For goodness sake we finally have the technology and capability to truly show these films at home as they were seen in the theatre and instead we get half of what we want, and 1/2 of what is capable. SIGH SIGH SIGH!!!
I remember when George Lucas remastered Star Wars and talked of the state of the quality of the film they found to work with. How it was falling apart and fading despite its relatively young age. He and Steven Spielberg said it was lucky they caught it in time and rescued master copies of the original film. Luckily they had the money to remaster them and clean them up for us. Will we ever be so lucky with Jackie's films? I hang my head in dismay.
Dear Dragon Dynasty, Dear Kam & Ronson, Dear MiramAXE! please please please listen to your customers; listen to us fans; Give Us JACKIE AS HE WAS MEANT TO BE! Take extra care when you transfer to Blu-ray, clean the film at least, and work to preserve the detail...use the more than adequate space on a blu-ray disk to include multiple SPOKEN languages; STOP STOP STOP CENSORING and give us the UNCUT VERSIONS WITH ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACKS! For Gods sake people this is the 21st century and we can do it. When you buy a Blu-ray it should much much crisper than the DVD version, it should be uncut, it should have loads of features and choices, it should be the ultimate home theater experience not some half baked expensive edited, unadorned transfer of some off the shelf copy.
I WISH JACKIE WOULD TAKE CONTROL AND USE HIS POWER TO PRESERVE IN PRISTINE FORM HIS FILMS AS THEY WERE MEANT TO BE instead of this hit and miss that has always plagued his wonderful films!

Editorial Review:

The action legend himself -- Jackie Chan (SHANGHAI NOON, RUSH HOUR) -- explodes across the screen on Blu-ray Disc in a power-packed adventure that critics agree captures some of the most incredible action stunts ever. when the British government is discovered smuggling precious Chinese artifacts out of the country, folklore hero Wong Fei Hung (Chan) uses his uniquely outlandish style of martial arts -- Drunken Boxing -- to fight the conspirators and salvage the valuables before it's too late. And the more Hung drinks, the more agile he becomes -- able to fend off numerous attacks with unbelievable moves. With Chinese treasures and family pride on the line, Hung steps up to every challenge. It's a fun and unstoppably entertaining hit in Blu-rayHigh Definition.

Chan Good, Disney Bad 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The good news about this film is that it stars the always hilarious Jackie Chan and is quite funny. The bad news is that it was done by Disney.

Disney has alway treated its sources arrogantly and callously, acting as if could `do better' than a writer beloved by generations of kids. J. R. R. Tolkien noticed that in the 1930s, and shuddered at the thought that his tales might get their treatment. More recently, Disney abused Prince Caspian, by Tolkien's friend C. S. Lewis, remaking it into something they thought would do better with kids, resulting in mediocre performance at the box office and an agreement between them and Walden Media, that Disney would play no role in subsequent Narnia films. Good riddance.

In this case, Disney's victim is Jules Verne and his 1873 classic, Around the World in Eighty Days. The original is so heavily altered for the worst, that almost the only parallel to the original is the fact that both involve someone circling the world of the late 1800s in 80 days. Disney should have had enough integrity not to steal Verne's title and prestige for their own tale.

Even the essence has been altered by the too-clever-by-half twits at Disney. Verne loved science and pioneered science fiction as new form of literature. Almost all the scientists in this Disney perversion are corrupt, blundering or stupid. That and a plot that isn't good for children, reflecting too much of what passes for `values' in Hollywood, makes this a film parents might want to take a pass on.

--Michael W. Perry, Stories for Girls: Lovingly Adapted for Twenty-First Century Children
