Editorial Review:

Sinewy, sleek, and oozing charisma, Bruce Lee brought sex appeal to the martial arts genre, dominating even the most cliché-riddled adventures with his mix of good-humored geniality and focused intensity. His first film, the low-budget Hong Kong adventure Fists of Fury (as it was titled in the U.S.), is exactly that: a raw, rough-edged revenge drama of a country boy who uncovers a heroin-smuggling ring. Yet the film comes alive when Lee pounces into action, his wiry, well-muscled frame erupting in lightning moves. His follow-up, The Chinese Connection, keeps the revenge theme going for a tale of a kung fu student who avenges his teacher's death at the hands of a Japanese rival. The international success of both films enabled the increasingly ambitious Lee to write and direct his own feature, Return of the Dragon, a more-comic tale of a Chinese country boy who travels to Rome to help out cousins under the thumb of local mobsters. Though filled with excellent martial arts bouts, all choreographed by Lee, the highlight is a death match between Lee and karate champion Chuck Norris in the Roman Colosseum. Lee died before completing his last feature, Game of Death, and a rather unconvincing double runs around much of the film between footage of the real Lee, but the climax features an impressive bout with basketball star and Lee student Kareem Abdul-Jabar. Though a cut above most martial arts movies of the period, these are no masterpieces, but then who watches a Bruce Lee film for the story? In these films, plot is simply there for the scenes between Lee's amazing fight sequences. The documentary Bruce Lee: The Legend completes the collection. --Sean Axmaker

pitiful 1 out of 5 stars.

I've been reading the reviews... and noticing how everyone who gave it 'top marks' saying it was 'hylarious', 'the bets movie ever', and so on and so forth, have never seen the original anime, or even better, read the manga.
If they had I'm sure none of those people would give it more than it's due - 1 star (for J.C. fans, maybe 2).
This movie is a poor excuse for an adaptation. And a disgrace for the original City Hunter. Jackie Chan as Saeba Ryo?! Puh-lease!
The attempts at manga/anime humor fall on barren ground and turn the movie into an even more of a farce as it already is.
I wouldn't recomend this movie not even to my worst enemy and I agree with the reviewer who said 'when you die and go to Hell, Satan makes you watch this movie'. I can't imagine a torture greater than that. I'd take boiling oil any time!

Editorial Review:

Based on a popular Japanese comic strip, Hong Kong's high-flying martial arts action hero Jackie Chan stars as private Ryu Saeba in City Hunter. Hired to find the runaway daughter of a Japanese publishing tycoon, Ryu's first impulse is to turn the job down - until he sees a picture of the beautiful Shizuko (Kumiko Goto). Hot on her heels, Ryu tracks her down on board a cruise ship, and much to the annoyance of his jealous female sidekick Kaori (Joey Wong) the womanizing Ryu seems more interested in catching Shizuko's attention than returning her safely to her father. However, Ryu's romantic plans quickly go astray when a gang of ruthless criminals hijack the ship and hold the passengers to ransom. To save the day Jackie Chan's unique action style reigns supreme in a series of brilliantly conceived fight sequences as Ryu swings into action to dispatch the bad guys and rescue the goergeous Shizuko!

Editorial Review:

Bruce Lee kicked around Hollywood for years looking in vain for an American break when Hong Kong came calling. As Kato in the TV series The Green Hornet he had become an Asian star (the series was renamed for his character when it crossed the Pacific) and ripe for his own vehicle. This raw, low-budget effort, called The Big Boss in its native Hong Kong, is a generic revenge drama enlivened by Lee's intense screen presence and martial arts prowess. He's a country boy who takes a job at a Thailand ice-packing plant and discovers it's a cover for heroin smuggling. Lee is held back through the first half of the film by a promise he made his sweet, gray-haired mom not to brawl (which means you have to wait to see him in action), but his indignation turns to fury as friends and coworkers disappear and the boss sends thugs to take care of the brooding, intense country boy. The final half of the film is a series of violent confrontations, culminating in a marvelously choreographed showdown at the ice plant. Lean, mean Lee, with a physique that looked sculpted in bronze, became an overnight sensation with this film, breaking all Asian box-office records and starting an international kung fu craze, but none of the pretenders ever touched Lee's cool cinematic charisma or his martial arts grace. Lee returned the next year in The Chinese Connection. --Sean Axmaker

Someone PLEASE Release the Entire Series on DVD!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

First, some technical specifications. DVD made by Brentwood Home Video, Copyright 2000. DVD is in widescreen, 1:1.85 ratio. The DVD cover states that it is from a "brand new" 35mm print of the original 1974 movie. DVD is not in stereo, but something the DVD cover describes as "Digital Dolby Mono." DVD has excellent bonus features including a Featurette called "The Black Beauty" which details a Green Hornet fan's restoration of one of the original Black Beauty cars. Also included is a loop of Bruck Lee's greatest fight scenes from the movie along with a photo gallery.

Even in this limited format, I was struck by what an amazing show "The Green Hornet" was, especially for 1966 television. Great writing, excellent casting and superlative design must have made this show jump off the tv screen in 1966, even if you had a black & white set. It's rumored that the staggering cost of each episode made the network drop the series and I can see why. If not for the shoddy editing, this compilation of episodes stands right alongside "James Bond," "Our Man Flint" and "Matt Helm" as a prime 60's super-spy movie. It is one of the few TV shows I have ever seen that actually LOOKS like a movie.

I agree that the movie is hard to follow in places due to the poor editing and the focus on The Master Bruce Lee, but it's the ONLY non-bootleg DVD of anything having to do with the 1966-67 TV series available. Note to all who have bootleg Green Hornet dvds: if you see an "FX" logo in the bottom of your screen, that means the person that burned it taped it (or the person that you bought it from who bought it from someone else who taped it) from re-runs of the Green Hornet that FX network did over ten years ago. It's sad that Fox or whoever holds the rights to this character are letting dvd bootleggers rob them and fans of money (go ahead and do a google search on the Hornet and see what the first hit is!). It's also sad that the FORTIETH Anniversary of the TV show has come and gone with NOTHING to commemorate it! Hopefully, the eventual DVD release of the 60's "Batman" TV show (the two shows had a crossover) will inspire someone at Fox to release the Green Hornet in the format that this excellent show deserves, but until then, this is all we have.

For martial arts genre fans, 70's b-movies and money savers 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Contrary to the only other review here at this time I knew what I was buying before I got this. I got it at $6.99 and free with gift cards so I can't complain. This is another of Mill Creek's low cost compilation sets, which are made of movies that are in the public domain. You shouldn't expect widescreen, digitally remastered features. This came with a colorful menu and four chapter points for each movie. There are 4 films on a dvd so I presume they use dual layer discs. It comes in a hard dvd case with flip over holders. Many of these movies are not available anywhere on DVD or will be for a time, are at a high cost for the same print, or let alone remastered. This is a good addition to go with the Martial Arts 50 Movie Pack Collection. The set that I got from this day comes with all the following:

# 1. Blood of the Dragon 1973
# 2. Bloodfight 1989
# 3. Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave 1978
# 4. Champ Against Champ 1983
# 5. Clones of Bruce Lee 1977
# 6. Crippled Masters 1979
# 7. Deadly Kick 1976
# 8. Dragon Lee vs. The Five Brothers 1978
# 9. Fighting Ace 1979
# 10. Fighting Fists of Shanghai Joe, The 1972
# 11. Fists of Bruce Lee 1978
# 12. Image of Bruce Lee 1978
# 13. Kung Fu - The Invisible Fight 1972
# 14. Kung Fu Fever 1979
# 15. L.A. Street Fighter 1985
# 16. Master, The 1984
# 17. Rage of the Master 1975
# 18. Real Bruce Lee, The 1973
# 19. Screaming Ninja 1973
# 20. Snake Crane Secret 1976

There were two movies that repeated from the 50 pack martial arts I have (not the one with bruce lee on the cover): The Master and The Real Bruce Lee. Quality varies in print, all are probably from a vhs copy but some are more noticeable than others. On a quick scan there was some movies that were good, adequate and one or two pretty blurry and lacking detail. I have only watched one movie so far - Kung Fu the invisible fight - and found it enjoyable. I watched it on my 18" laptop and 22" LCD monitor with HD and filters on software and things and found it acceptable. Might not be acceptable on huge 60"+ screens. When it's on sale I would say its worth it. I'm a entertainment, knowledge, movie freak so I will pretty much watch and read anything. You might be able to get these movies free legally through the internet but this saves all the time and money etc.. Might have a more detailed review maybe later after watching it all.

Only worth buying for Kung Fu Superman 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

KUNG FU SUPERMAN, also known as LITTLE SUPERMAN- this is one of the best old school kung fu movies of all time. Tons of fight scenes with lots of recognizable actors. Bruce Leung, James Nam, Chan Lung, Chan Lau, Lee Ka Ting, John Cheung, Hon Kwok Choi, and Meng Hoi who looks about 13 years old. All of the fights are good, and the final fight is one you will never forget. If you want to save yourself a few dollars, I recommend just getting the 2-pack this comes in- Kung Fu Superman/Muscle of the Dragon. Rating- 5/5
Picture quality is fine, and it is uncut. Best picture quality in the 10-pack. This movie is a MUST see for any kung fu fan.

BRUCE LEE THE STAR OF STARS, better known as EXIT THE DRAGON, ENTER THE TIGER- Chen Zhen has died and his brother played by Bruce Li starts investigating his murder. This movie is complete nonsense but it tries to be serious. The fight scenes are nonstop but none of them are good. Lung Fei, Kam Kong and Chang Yi all have lengthy fights, and I was expecting a lot more from a cast like that. There just isn't much put into the fights. It is sad. This movie is a big disappointment. 2/5
Picture quality is washed out but partly widescreened. It is watchable.

DRAGON LIVES AGAIN- Bruce Leung stars as Bruce Lee. The story is about Bruce Lee going to Hell and fighting his way out. He teams up with the One Armed Swordsman and Popeye the Sailor and they fight Zatoichi, James Bond, Dracula, The Godfather, Emmanuelle, and other people. Yes, I am serious, that is what the movie is about. It is not a good movie, but still a lot of fun. Fans of cheesy kung fu movies may like it. 1.5/5
Picture quality is bad but watchable. Full screen.

FIST OF FURY 3, aka JEET KUNE THE CLAWS AND THE SUPREME KUNG FU- Bruce Li once again plays Chen Zhen's brother. Fist of Fury 2 was good, but part 3 isn't. Don't waste your time with this. Just fast forward to the last 30 minutes. Some of the action is good, but not enough of it is good. 1.5/5
Picture quality is not too bad but the full screen presentation cuts out a lot of the action. Barely watchable.

REVENGE OF FIST OF FURY- if you are a fan of really bad movies then this is right up your alley. I found it to be truly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I had never heard of Bruce Pack before and now I know why. 0.5/5
Picture quality is bad and it is full screen, but it is still watchable.

MISSION FOR THE DRAGON, aka RAGE OF THE DRAGON- Dragon Lee and Carter Wong fight it out to the death in this crappy kung fu movie. The kung fu is decent at times, but there is nothing special about it. The movie itself is completely mindless and doesn't make any sense. The only reason to watch this is for the sound effects they use in the final fight. I have never heard anything like it before. It kind of sounds like a Nintendo game. 0.5/5
    Picture quality is watchable.

MUSCLE OF THE DRAGON- this movie uses footage from Clones of Bruce Lee. I couldn't get into it I had to turn it off after watching 20 minutes. Completely unwatchable. 0/5
Picture quality is decent at best.

CHING WU AND SHAOLIN, better known as BRUCE AND SHAOLIN KUNG FU- one of the worst kung fu movies of all time. Don't waste your time with this. I tried my hardest to make it all the way through this and I had to shut the movie off with 20 minutes left. I don't think I have ever seen worse fight choreography. No joke. Bolo Yeung and everyone else involved with this movie should be ashamed of themselves. 0/5
Picture quality is very bad, but still watchable.

CHING WU AND SHAOLIN PART 2- after watching part 1, I figured that there was no way part 2 could be any worse. Well, I was wrong. The only reason I watched it for more than 30 minutes was because superkicker Eagle Han Ying has a part in the movie. He has one fight. It is a bad fight, but he gets to show off his amazing kicks. Then he gets shot and dies. So to sum it up briefly, part 2 is somehow worse than part 1. My eyes were bleeding by the end of this movie. 0/5
Picture quality is very bad, but still watchable (same quality is part 1).

ENTER THE GAME OF DEATH- I can usually watch even the worst picture quality, but this is completely unwatchable. The picture shakes like crazy and you can't see anything. Too bad, because I was looking forward to this movie.

So once again, the only reason to get this 10-pack is to see Kung Fu Superman, which can also be found in this 2-pack- Kung Fu Superman/Muscle of the Dragon And I apologize for not going over all of the movies in more detail. It was painful to try and watch all of them.

bruce lee documentary 3 out of 5 stars.
9 of 11 people found this review helpful.

this is a short (about 45 min) documentary of on the films of bruce lee. the production value is low and the content is merely ok. it's valuable only to the fan of bruce lee (it does give a good list of all his movies, not as many as you think). i bought it in a two pack with another Lee documentary, The Intercepting Fist, a documentary on the style of martial arts he created, and is a truly good documentary. If you can find the 2-pack, go for it, otherwise, i'd probably pass on this one.

Intelligent Look at Lee's Impact 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

"Path" provides a very intelligent examination of how Bruce Lee
and the martial arts, in general, crossed cultural and racial
barriers for positive impact. Thoughtfully narrated by the
actor's daughter Shannon Lee, the documentary is highlighted by
interviews of current luminaries in movies and martial arts such
as Richard Norton and Jackie Chan. Commentaries on Lee are
also provided by his "Enter the Dragon" co-star John Saxon, James
Coburn and George Lazenby, a former James Bond. The historical
origins of the martial arts, with vintage footage from Asian locations, are examined to lay the foundation for the bases of
Lee's global success. Students and film fans alike will enjoy
this remarkable hour that is, in equal parts, an enjoyable history lesson and a retrospective on the importance of Bruce Lee
to film and to international popular culture.
