Good and interesting for Kung Fu aficionados and entertaining for fans of Southern Cops 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This DVD has a Brian Dennehy movie about the trouble a southern sherriff goes through to maintain order in his town. Then there is The Real Bruce Lee.

This movie is a compilation of some of Bruce Lee's stuff. The first part is a narrative with excerpts from four of Bruce Lee's early movies from his youth. Then there is a quick biography of Bruce, followed by a lot of clips of his immitaters. Then there is the better part of a movie from hies newest immitater, Dragon Lee.

And you're being ripped off if you buy it for however much these guys are selling it used. You can get this movie new at your local dollar store.

great bruce exploitation 5 out of 5 stars.

Years ago after watching several bruce li films, I discovered bruce le with this movie and is one of my favorites for three reasons, le has the bruce lee physique and is the best fighter out of all the imitators. Bolo(bad guy cameo), lo lieh, chan wai man, and james nam(with 2 numchucks) also show their stuff in the many fights. The dubbing and other goofiness further intensifies the entertainment value. The fighting used in this film is real kung fu (like shaw brothers shaolin films) not like bruce lee. The dvd anamorphic WS picture is good, and no problems with mono english audio (good on the sound system).

Another Bruce "Le" movie... but it's actually not that bad. 3 out of 5 stars.

Every movie I see Bruce "Le" in has absolutely zero budget, crappy kung fu, and terrible acting from "Le". But this movie is a bit different. The story is terrible, but everything else is pretty good. A great soundtrack, cool 70's outfits, an AWESOME cast, and good fights. What else do you ask for in a kung fu movie? This is without a doubt in my mind the best fight choreography that Bruce Le has ever been involved with. The cast also includes Cheung Lik, Chan Wai Man, Kong Do, Chu Chi Ling, Nora Miao, Leung Siu Wa (villain from Kung Fu Massacre), and a great cameo fight from Bolo Yeung. And there's a bunch of recognizable actors who play thugs/extras in the movie, like Lam Ching Ying and Chien Yuet San. The story's not really worth going over. Bruce Le is looking for some kung fu book, and it's gonna take him the whole movie to find it. It's a bore, but the fights are what makes it worth watching.

3/5

The VCI DVD is letterboxed and the picture quality is quite good. And the English dub sounds good. Unfortunately, it looks like there is a little bit of gore cut out at the end. Then again, the people who made the movie could be at fault, and maybe nobody has ever seen an uncut version. It's a mystery to me.

BRUCE LEE'S LEGACY DVD - WHAT TITLES OF NEW DVDS???? 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Many Bruce Lee's fans don't buy this titles because the description of the dvd was not complete. What are the titles by videoasia?? Please write description or cover. thanks

good content, too many flaws by the worst movie distributor ever-Videoasia 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I do have to wonder about the credibility of George tan, the pruducer of this boxed set and the documentary featured on here. I mean why are you teaming up with video asia??? Major questions there. I will go over each of the discs in this set. There is major problems with "the young bruce lee" dvd and other not so major problems on all the other discs. I will explain.

FIST OF THE UNICORN- I never thought I could give a movie with yusakai kuratu in it a 0/5, but I am. Add in Whang in-sik who's legs look awesome in this, and I just told you the one good scene of this movie. Unicorn Chan is actually not that bad of an actor and his kung fu skills are not the worst. But his signature move where he flies up into the air like superman and then just comes down to kill his oppenents with his death strike, it is truly unbearable to watch.

Now there is 2 versions of the film on this disc: A really bad full screened english version, and a widescreen one that has an even worse picture with almost unreadable subtitles.

The movie is just so stupid and bad I really cannot recommend this to anyone.

Now the 2 special feature are VERY good. One is an interview with betty ting pei that is REALLY REALLY old. And then a really cool interview with bruce's stuntmen.

BRUCE LEE: THE TRUE STORY-aka-the Man the Myth. The movie is horrible but it was laying around in video asia's library of crappy kung fu movies, so they used it. One interesting note is how they talk about how this movie actually reached Enter the Dragon type of box office #'s worldwide. But I guaranteee you the movie is just godawful.

There are 2 commentaries on this film and one is very important. The important one has the original writer of Dragon: the Bruce Lee Story- Rob Cohen's outrageously stupid and funny American Bruce Lee Bio movie. There is A LOT of important info discussed and this dvd is HIGHLY recommended by me for any bruce lee fan. Joe Lewis comes on and talks about how he met bruce and this commentary alone easily gets a 5/5.

The second commentary discusses the movie, Bruce Lee the True Story.

The extras are pretty good, though the ng see-tuen interview is way out of place. Still all the extras are pretty good.

NOTE-the dvd set gets only a 3 becuase the audio on the important commentary is lousily done and you will need to turn your TV up pretty loud. The commentary that talks about the movie is a little better audio quality.

DEATH BY MISADVENTURE-The documentary itself is truly one of the better investigation doc. about his death. And the commentary is very good. Though terrible audio quality, still worth listening too a couple of times. The doctor that first looked at Bruce, Dr. Don Langford was in like half of the documentary and then is on about 30 minutes of the commentary! It is so insightful that I have alreadsy listened to it twice. It is very interesting.

Now the audio is fine on the movie itself, but like I said is just really bad on the commentary. Still, worth turning up the volume and checking this out if you are a Bruce Lee fan.

THE YOUNG BRUCE LEE-this is an odd Bruce Lee documentary that looks to have been made in the 80's. The first 30 minutes show clips of when he starred in films as a child actor. I looked away for a minute or 2 and all of asudden there was a cartoon with a monkey beating up the devil??? I rewound but it really didn't make any sense, just as the whole movie really doesn't. But just as you get lost it becomes an almost watchable documentary. They show some clips from some stupid clone mmovies. I don't know if this movie/documentary was supposed to make sense, but it didn't come close. All in all, this is worth watching once for "the oyung bruce lee", but not again.

This disc does have a commentary by Jesse Glover, or at least I think it was him. I COULDN'T HEAR A THING! All you can hear is a muffled voice in the backround. Classic Video Asia.

The extras include an interview with Leo Fong, and other good stuff. A lot of it gets repeated on these discs, but only the good stuff. So videoasia, you must have got this done by your deadline, which was probably 1 day, way to go.

What the martial arts is NOT about ! 2 out of 5 stars.
10 of 15 people found this review helpful.

On the surface, "Modern Warriors" seems to be a documentary
celebrating the diversity, philosophy and techniques of the modern world of martial arts. However, about one third of the way through this film it becomes apparent that what you are really watching is really more propoganda in support of no-holds-barred fighting and glorification of the violent attitudes inherent in street-fighting.

Although it features true legends of the martial arts such as
Furio Demura, Jet Li, Tak Kubota, Benny "the Jet" Urquidez,
Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Rorion Gracie, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Bong Soo Han,and Bas Rutten, it understates the importance of the philosophy of the martial arts and fails to provide the answer to the important question of what distinguishes martial arts from the simple bully mentality and sloppy tactics of street fighting. What's worse is that the video seems to cover traditional martial arts in the introduction only to later ridicule it when juxtaposed next to semi-realistic
footage of street fights and no-holds-barred matches.

I'm not exactly sure what the point of showing miscellaneous home video style street-fighting footage is either. In covering this phenomena, the film itself seems to drop down to the level of its subject matter and even some of the martial artists who should know better such as Richard Norton and actor Louis Mandylor get caught up in the bashing of formal martial arts training. These comments contribute to the overall negative feeling of this film.

If the point of this film is to present the emergence and evolution of the sport known as no-holds-barred fighting,
then it falls short here as well by neglecting to mention the fact that even in these so called "reality fighting" contests, good technique and disciplined training usually win out in the end.
The filmmakers fail to point out that one of the primary goals of martial arts is the _striving_for_perfection_ of technique, whether it be a technique of striking, blocking, throwing or grappling.

The only saving grace of this video are the interviews and footage of Benny "the Jet" Urquidez, Don the Dragon Wilson and Bill "Superfoot" Wallace: three exceptional martial artists who successfully applied their martial arts training in the world of full-contact fighting without forgetting about their roots in traditional martial arts.

Do you know the difference between Martial Arts and fighting ?
Unfortunately the filmmakers of "Modern Warriors" do not seem
to know. Instead of using the tremendous amount of wisdom and talent they had before them to create an inspirational documentary about the true meaning of the martial arts and the spirit and dedication of its practitioners, they decided to
edit the footage and interviews in such a way that ultimately
glorifies macho street violence and no-holds-barred fighting.

A REAL Green Hornet Series Collection,Please.... 2 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

When Bruce Lee passed in 1973, 2 films were pieced together in an attempt to cash in on Bruce Lee mania via splicing together some of Lee's best moments from the Green Hornet series, and thus making 2 90 min. "Bruce Lee films" to the joy of those who were anxious for more Bruce Lee footage. The first was entitled "Green Hornet", the second was entitled, oddly enough, "Fury of the Dragon."

What we have here is the official sequel to the first 90 minute Green Hornet feature. An identical approach in that the production is made up of various scenes from the Green Hornet tv series...and the result? In spite of some good moments and fond memories of watching Bruce Lee get down as a superhero and hearing his REAL voice, we're left with 90 minutes of awkward splicing together of stories that don't blend. I even recall seeing a few fight scenes from the 1st movie. If you ask me, what we have here is a shadow of what was to come in 1978...20th Century Fox's butchering of Bruce Lee's Game of Death. The only difference was that they spliced together footage alone as opposed to throwing in an unconvincing double with 10 minutes of real footage. Either way, this one's a keeper for die hard Bruce Lee fans, one that'll be worth lots in the near future. But yet aqnd still, I have to call Green Hornet vol. 1 and Fury of the Dragon(Green Hornet vol. 2) what it is...BRUCEPLOITATION nonetheless. MAY WE PLEASE HAVE AN OFFICAL GREEN HORNET BOX COLLECTION? THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE TO PURCHASING THESE 2 SPLICE JOBS IS ON THE BLACK MARKET & I DON'T STEAL. SOMEBODY HELP A BROTHER OUT. LOL!

WORD OF WARNING: Make sure that your DVD player will play PAL discs before purchasing this dvd. My copy will only play on my Windows Media Player...it's region 1, it's not a bootleg, but it's being PAL will make all the difference as to whether or not it'll play. Be careful.
